Resilience

“Life is rough so you gotta be tough.” – Johnny Cash

Is that not the truth? In life, we must be tough enough to refuse to give up on our goals and dreams – no matter how impossible they may be. We must have the resilience to pick ourselves up after every fall or failure, and continue to move forward.

Nobody said that life would be easy, and all of the things we desire will just fall into our laps. Just because things don’t come easy, it does not mean that they are not meant to be.

Nobody said that a life with horses would be easy. In fact, many people told me over the years that a life with horses is  actually really hard. This sport seems impossible at times, but day after day I keep coming back. I have learned to celebrate the small, day to day, successes. Just this week, I have been very pleased with the fact that Chance was getting beautiful lead changes on the straight away.

I know that I will get where I want to go, competitively, someday. I know that if I was ever going to give up, I would have by now! I find that having the resilience to pick myself up after a fall, or bad experience, or setback has made me into a stronger horsewoman than I once was.

I think we will all get where we want to go if we have the resilience to keep moving forward, and are tough enough to refuse to give up.
