No One Said This Horse Thing Would be Easy!

Goodness, it has been a while! I have been meaning to post an update on Chance for weeks, but life has definitely been a bit crazy lately. For one, I finally moved into the cabin (but more on that later).

Back in October, we tried putting Chance back to work (you can read about it here) and it went well for a couple weeks… Then he showed us that he wasn’t quite ready. I started acting a little sour, and sore, so he went back on vacation. Indefinitely. I am planning to try working him again toward January though, since he has perked up the past couple of weeks. The other day, when I turned him out, he was sassy as can be – running, bucking, and just acting like a fool. Maybe it is just the cooler weather, or maybe he truly is bouncing back now! His booty has also been looking a little rounder, and he seems to be getting some muscle back along his top-line.

However, I have accepted the fact that he may never work like he once did, if at all, and that is okay. No one said this horse thing is easy. In fact, if I have learned anything in my sixteen years of riding it is that this sport is really really hard. Horses get hurt, and things rarely work out the way we want them to. And I’ve come to realize that if I can’t deal with that reality, I might as well quit.

Quitting isn’t really my style though. I am absolutely dying to get back in the saddle, and I will whether Chance gets better or not. Like I always say, there is always a way! The timing hasn’t been quite right for me to get another horse yet, but it is what I am working toward now. Chance is my forever horse, but I do plan to keep moving forward in my riding even if he can’t! As you can see in this video though, he sure is getting his fire back! 😉
