What’s hard usually makes us stronger.
I had this thought during my workout yesterday. I hadn’t trained with weights in forever, but I wanted to challenge myself – and my body – so I started Beachbody’s Hammer and Chisel. Oh my is it challenging! I am so sore! But the pain I feel now will create strength later.
The same can be said for riding hard horses, or facing challenges in the sport of equestrian. I have ridden phenomenal show horses, young horses, crazy horses, and one very tough horse named Chance. I must say that the more difficult horses are the ones that made me. Even though I didn’t always see it at the time, I was becoming a stronger rider and trainer when I was facing major challenges – and fear. Had I simply stuck with fancy show horses, I would not be the rider I am today.
All of the setbacks, failures, and disappointments that I have experienced in my life have made me stronger mentally and emotionally than I ever thought possible. Learning to pick myself back up and keep going, after getting knocked down by life, has shown me what I am really capable of. I wouldn’t change any of it.
I have decided that from this point forward, I don’t want to get comfortable – like I have in the past. I want to challenge myself. I want to do things that are hard. I want to do things that scare me. Hardships are what make us. They are how we grow.
What’s hard makes us stronger. So, I want to challenge YOU to challenge yourself this week! Whether it’s a new workout, something horse related, facing a fear, or just something that makes you uncomfortable. Do it! And let it change you!
