Be Kind

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” – Hebrews 13:2

I love this verse, and I love thinking about angels walking among us! It seems that these days we tend to shy away from the supernatural aspects of Christianity. We can’t forget that God is not of this world, and that there is so much about Him and His creations that we cannot possibly fathom!

Maybe the thought of angels hanging out here with seems “far fetched,” but if we cease to believe that really anything is possible with God how can we truly serve Him?

On another note, this verse really reminds me to be kind to others. There is always more to a person than meets the eye. We never know what someone may be going through, or has been through. We also never know what may come of interacting with someone. Think of your best friend, or significant other. That person was once a stranger to you, and now you probably can’t picture your life without them. In this digital world we live in, it can be hard to remember to actually talk to people in real life! It also seems that our current culture perpetuates isolation. Meme after meme comes across my Facebook newsfeed about staying in watching TV is better than venturing in out into the world, and actually nurturing relationships with others. I see post after post about how “awful” people are. Then, when I am out in public, everyone seems to have their head in their phone (and I am guilty of this too sometimes)!

What is life without other people though?!

So this week I challenge you to look up from your phone, smile at strangers, be kind to those you meet, and spend time with those you already know and love! Who knows, maybe you will get to hang out with an angel! 🙂
