Last weekend history was made as American Pharoah galloped across the finish line of the Belmont Stakes, becoming the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. This horse will forever be famous as one of the mere twelve that have achieved Triple Crown victories. I held my breath through the nearly the entire race. He was ahead the whole time, and just shot forward at the end finishing five and a half lengths ahead of everyone else. It was incredible to watch. I actually had not watched the first two races, but I pulled them up on YouTube before the Belmont Stakes. Judging from his performance in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, I thought he had a very good chance of winning the Triple Crown. I do not know much about horse racing besides watching races here and there, but I have never seen one run like that apart from old videos of Secretariat. He barely appeared to be trying until the end in all of the races, he looked so effortless with his mile long stride! In fact, American Pharoah’s finishing time was the second fastest of all the Triple Crown winners; second to the one and only Secretariat. I am still in awe. That was the first Triple Crown victory in my lifetime, and definitely a race that I will always remember. I hope that American Pharoah is enjoying a much need break this weekend, and I am so excited to see what is in store for his future!
If you have not watched his races, I highly suggest you pull them up on YouTube. Also, check out this article from ABC News for more information on his victory.
(Yes, I took pictures of the TV… :-))
